The beautiful body of this pen is made from segments of wood, metal, and stone. The wood is called Desert Ironwood and it came from the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. True to it's name, it is extremely hard and very heavy like iron. The stone segments are Black Marble and green Malachite a mineral that can also be found in Arizona. The metal separating segments are made of brass.
The pen is based on the “Cigar” pen style which has a sophisticated, heavy presence for those who enjoy a more substantial writing instrument.
The pen uses widely available Parker-style refills. Parker refills can contain standard ballpoint ink, liquid ink, or gel ink and all in a variety of colors and point sizes.
The tip of the pen is removed by unscrewing it which provides access for changing the ink cartridge.
The pen is plated with Gold which for centuries has arguably been the most attractive metal to the human eye.
Since pure Gold is also the softest of all metals, it is typically blended with a small amount of a hard metal like nickel to improve it’s durability.
When softer, more pure Gold is used it is protected by applying an extremely thin coating of a clear epoxy or lacquer to make the Gold finish durable and more suitable for everyday handling.
The pen ID is 1084 and it was built by David Lange on March 7, 2022.
